David Bednall presents an exciting programme to display the full sounds and abilities of Sherborne Abbey’s magnificent organ. The master of the organ, J.S. Bach, is represented in the mighty Aus tiefer Noth with its double pedal part, and well-known organ composers Vierne, Howells, and Francis Jackson are heard in beautiful miniatures. Among the more unusual offerings are Cecilia McDowall’s uplifting Celebration, Hilary Tann’s evocative Pinnae Ventorum, and Britton’s fantastically virtuosic and fun Variations on ‘I got rhythm’ and James Macmillan’s rhythmic dance Kenga e Krushqve. The programme ends with an improvisation for which the audience are invited to submit themes.
David is recognized as one of the leading choral composers of his generation – widely published, performed, recorded and broadcast. David is Choral Director at Clifton Cathedral, an Organist of St John The Evangelist, Bath, and Director of Bristol Bach Choir, Bristol Chamber Choir and Chew Valley Choral Society, alongside his extensive freelance career.
