Recorder: Amy Whittlesea
Theorbo: Matthew Wadsworth
International concert soloists Amy Whittlesea and lutenist Matthew Wadsworth invite us to step back in time through their evocative combination of recorder and theorbo. Experience the virtuosity of the Italian and Spanish Renaissance and the world of the French Baroque including music from St Mark’s Basilica in Venice and the Royal Court at Versailles.
Working as a soloist and chamber musician, Matthew Wadsworth has appeared at most major concert halls and festivals across the UK and Europe, and can often be heard on radio, both in live performance and recordings. He studied lute at the Royal Academy of Musi with Nigel North, then at The Hague Royal Conservatory. His many recordings for Channel Classics, Linn Records, Deux-Elles and Wigmore Live have all received international critical acclaim.
Amy Whittlesea has performed as a soloist with the English Brandenburg Ensemble, at the London Bach Festival, among others, and she performed regularly as a member of Trio Tagarela, including at the Aldeburgh Festival and Cheltenham International Festival, the Purcell Room and Wigmore Hall, and in live broadcasts for BBC Radio 3 and Spain’s Radio and TV Catalunya. Amy has also performed as a deputy for the highly acclaimed recorder consort Fontanella.
