Community support from Waitrose as Sherborne Girls’ ‘pop up orchestra’ delights shoppers

On Saturday shoppers were treated to an unexpected ‘pop up orchestra’ organised by musicians from Sherborne Girls. The pupils played a variety of arrangements in the sunshine outside the Waitrose store in Sherborne and then took a break while John Baker of Sherborne Abbey Festival was presented a cheque from Waitrose for £2000.  Waitrose is a supporter of the Festival through its Community Matters central fund and this is the second year it has supported the town’s award-winning annual musical event.

Festival Director, John Baker, said “We are so grateful to Waitrose for supporting the Festival for a second year.  As a volunteer-run charitable event, we could not put on a festival of such high quality – with 70% of all performances free entry – if it was not for the generous support of our sponsors”.

Sherborne Girls String Quartet and Madrigal Society will be performing on Tuesday 5th May as part of the Festival – both events FREE ENTRY.
