Sherborne Abbey Choir, which is supported by Sherborne Abbey Festival, has been busy during lent – remotely recording the music for the Abbey’s Passion Sunday service. Each member of the Choir, whether chorister or adult, has recorded his and her own part with a guide track put together by the Director of Music, James Henderson, then each recording has been mixed into a whole using Logic software. The organ is not the Abbey’s own organ but is instead a virtual organ — a recorded copy, in fact, of that in Hereford Cathedral — and is played on an electric organ’s console alongside the individually recorded singers. Some might say, therefore, that it is a virtual Abbey Choir — and very nearly a virtual organist!
